John Nordstrom

John Sylvester Nordstrom, 81, died peacefully at 9:05pm on Good Friday, April 3, 2026 at Matusik Family Care Home in Orange City, Florida, of respiratory failure following a diagnosis of interstitial lung disease three years prior. He had been living with his daughter, Michelle Kaleniak, of Enterprise, Florida, until February 2026, when his condition declined significantly.

Born on July 22, 1944, in Rockford, Illinois, John was the oldest son of William “Bill”Frederick Nordstrom and Evelyn Frances “Ginger” Gingery. He spent most of his youth in Webster City, Iowa, where he graduated from Iowa Central Community College for nursing. He became a registered nurse in 1974, and continued practicing for over 40 years.

John married Mary Elizabeth Morton on March 8, 1963. Together they had three children including Robert Anthony, Michael Allen, and Michelle Elizabeth. After a little more than a decade, John and Mary divorced, and John had another daughter, Jennifer Lynn Harris. Following the divorce, John moved to Texas where he continued practicing nursing in various hospitals. On February 27 1979, he married Donnah Faye Glover, of Hamilton, Texas. The couple lived on a ranch in Hamilton for over 35 years until Donnah’s passing on December 29, 2017. John remained in Texas for another seven years before his health began to decline. In March of 2024, he moved to Florida with his daughter, Michelle.

He is survived by brother, Fredrick William Nordstrom; sons, Robert and Michael Nordstrom, and daughters, Michelle Kaleniak and Jennifer King; stepsons Allen and Dwayne Glover, stepdaughter, Melissa Glover, and over a dozen grandchildren, plus many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ginger; wife, Donnah; and stepson, Dennis Glover.

A funeral Mass will be held for John on Tuesday, May 19, at 1pm, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Deland, Florida. A memorial service and interment will be organized in Hamilton, Texas, later this year.
