Wilbur Schumaker

Wilbur Schumaker, 97, of Webster City, died Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Asbury United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery for Wilbur and Eleanor, along with his twin brother, Gilbert. Foster Funeral & Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Wilbur Elmo Schumaker, son of Fred and June (Berryhill) Schumaker, was born on August 30, 1928. He grew up northeast of Webster City on a farm in Cass Township. He went to Cass #2 Country School through 8th grade. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1946, Wilbur farmed and worked at Naden Score Board in Webster City.

In January 1951, Wilbur was drafted and joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea with the military police and discharged in January 1953.

On February 8, 1953, Wilbur was united in marriage to Eleanor Tolstrup at Asbury United Methodist Church. The couple enjoyed 72 years of marriage. They lived and farmed between Jewell and Stanhope for 33 years before retiring and moving to Webster City.

They enjoyed traveling and following the ISU basketball team for many years. They wintered in Arizona for over 25 years, where Wilbur enjoyed wood carving.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #191.

He is survived by his daughter, Rita (John) Schmidt of Ocheyedan; son, Ronald (Kim) Schumaker of Jewell; four grandchildren, Leisa (Jake) Isder, Kevin (Danika) Schmidt, Ross (Melissa) Schumaker, Alex (Shanti) Schumaker; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Tolstrup of Webster City, and sister-in-law, Karen Ireson of Salt Lake City, UT.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, in 2025; his parents; infant daughter, Christine Lou Schumaker; twin brother, Gilbert Schumaker; sister, Wilda (Tilford) Teig; brother-in-law, Everett (Marybe) Tolstrup and sister-in-law, Melba Tolstrup.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Brushy Creek Honor Flight or the American Legion Post #191 for flag restoration with Avenue of Flags.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Southfield Care Center for exceptional care that Wilbur received.
