Duane Abbott
Duane Orville Abbott, 85 of Story City, formerly of Webster City, passed away May 18, 2024, at his home in Story City. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 on Friday, May 24th at the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Duane was born on March 4, 1939, near Creston, Iowa to Franklin and Violet (Neely) Abbott. He served in the US Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Duane married Phyllis Clements on November 17, 1961. He taught Industrial Arts at Clearfield and Exira where he also coached girls basketball and football and then taught Industrial Arts at Webster City from 1969 until he retired in 1996; where he also coached the shot put and discus for track. Duane was a very talented person and he and Phyllis designed and built their house in Webster City. He enjoyed golfing, building furniture, welding and watching sports on tv. Duane with the help of Phyllis then designed and he drew up the blue prints for the house they built in Story City in 2005.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Story City; daughter Kelly Abbott of Story City; his son, Douglas Abbott of Mankato, MN; a brother, Cleo Abbott of Ankeny; a sister-in-law, May (Lee) Fankhauser and nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Abbott.
