Larry was born on January 7, 1947, at Ellsworth Hospital, Iowa Falls, Iowa, to parents George C. Wulkau and Mildred L. (Cheyne) Wulkau of Williams.

Larry attended Williams and Radcliffe Schools. He was the daily “early morning” newspaper carrier for the Des Moines Register for over 45 years. He was a member of the former Williams United Methodist Church and a past member of Williams Lions Club. Larry was a frequent blood donor, as his blood type was often in short supply. He would respond to Blood Center calls as often as needed.

He was a lifelong fan of Iowa Hawkeyes football. A special memory was a train trip to California to see the Rose Parade and the Hawkeyes’ Rose Bowl game.

July 4th was the best day of the year in Williams. Family and friends shared his driveway to watch the parade, ending the day with fireworks.

Larry is survived by his sister, Linda (Dennis) Halsne of Slater, Iowa. His nephew is Kenton (Kristine) Halsne, also of Slater. Susan (Christopher) Roberts of Johnston is his niece. He was a great-uncle to Rylee, Regen, Renna, Ava, Lauren and Landry. He is also survived by four cousins and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, three cousins, and an infant niece.

The family appreciates the wonderful staff at Rotary Senior Living. Their skills, patience, and humor were encouraging to Larry and his family. In the last days of his life, St. Croix Hospice was valuable in every way, providing added comfort.
