Virgil Grubbe

Virgil Grubbe, 90, of Webster City, passed away on January 27, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, at Asbury United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with caring for the family.

Virgil Eugene Grubbe, son of Roy and Verna (Johnson) Grubbe, was born December 28, 1933, in Boone County, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. On November 26, 1952, Virgil married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Ruth Bernard in Webster City. He served in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1972 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. Virgil had a lifetime career in the meat industry. Following retirement, Virgil and Marilyn wintered in Mesa, AZ, for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marilyn; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Dave Janson of Webster City; son, Michael Grubbe of Parkville, MO; grandsons, Tim Janson (wife, Emily) of Charlotte, NC; Scott Janson of Dallas, TX, Michael Janson of Webster City; great-grandson, Walker Janson of Charlotte, NC; brother, Kenneth Grubbe of Omaha, NE and many extended family members.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; sister in infancy; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Stan Berven and sisters-in-law, Ruth Grubbe and Diane Bernard Touissaint.

He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, charter member of the Webster City Country Club, and the Diamond K Kiwanis. He volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels and spent many hours golfing at the Links with his friends and grandsons.
