Dennis Quam

August 4, 1959 – October 5, 2023

Dennis Truman Quam was born August 4th, 1959, to Laura (Hassebrock) and Gordon Quam in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on October 5, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He moved to Stanhope with his family and attended Stanhope Elementary and South Hamilton schools. Later, the family moved to Boone and he graduated from Boone High School. While in school, Dennis participated in football, chorus, band and 4H.

Dennis descended from a long line of farmers and at a very young age planted crops in every room of their home. Eventually, Dennis transitioned to actual machinery and fields. He considered himself blessed to be farming every day, particularly harvesting in the fall.

On August 4th, 1984 Dennis was united in marriage to Christine Shedd. They welcomed two sons, Jason Gordon in 1990 and Ryan John in 1993. Chris and Denny celebrated 39 years of marriage this year. They enjoyed attending both their son’s school and sporting events. He also was a fan of car racing, both watching and attending races.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church Boone.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Christine, sons Jason and Ryan, sister Debra Quam (Joseph) Martino, nephew Jack, niece Grace and step-nephews Kurt and Timothy. Uncles Wayne (Barbara) Hassebrock and Nolan (Linda) Quam. Mother-in-law Barbara Shedd, Brother-in-Law Paul (Karla) Shedd.

Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Minnie and Truman Quam, Edith and Ted Hassebrock, his parents, Laura and Gordon Quam, Uncle Harold Hassebrock, infant cousin Daniel Hassebrock, Father-in-Law John Shedd and numerous great aunts and uncles.

The funeral was held at 10:30 am Monday October 9, 2023 at First United Methodist Church (703 Arden Street, Boone, IA 50036) with Rev. Adam Gordon officiating. Interment was at the Story City Fairview Cemetery (908 Grand Ave., Story City, IA 50248).
