THOMAS TRITT MYERS

January 22, 1946 – May 27, 2023

Thomas Tritt Myers, son of Helen Bessie Rutledge Myers and George Elbert Myers, was born January 22, 1946, in Webster City, Iowa. He grew up on a farm Northeast of Webster City.

Tom acquired his interest in rockets and space while he was a member of the Rocket Club at his high school. He is also known to have blown up the chicken coop on the farm (more than once) while developing his rocket fuel. He pursued his interest in space and rockets. After graduating from High School in 1964, he received an Air Force Scholarship to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. He would later participate in the University of California (UCLA) and obtain his master’s degree.

In 1969, after graduating from Iowa State University, he was hired by Northrup Grumman in Huntsville, AL. After Huntsville, Tom packed all his belongings into his Austin Healy and took off for California. According to Tom, it was a long trip requiring several stops for repairs. Arriving in California, Tom initially worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, working on the lightweight titles used as a heat shield on the space shuttle. He also worked for the Boeing Company working on the B-1 Bomber. He then went to work for System’s Technology working his way up from a design engineer to Senior Vice President of the Company. While working in the Aerospace Industry, Tom traveled the country, giving lectures and presenting papers he had published in several scientific articles.

Tom inherited his appreciation for genealogy from his mother, a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR). He seemed to be forever working but managed to take several trips abroad with his mother to explore their ancestors.

Tom is survived by long-time friend Joanne Masuguchi Perez and 1st Cousins Danny (Linda Kloberdanz) Myers, Judy Lee Myers, Carolyn (Harold) Devries, Paul (Karen) Schuck, and Robert (Helen) Hill.

His parents, his aunts and uncles, and 1st Cousins Dale Myers, Ann Miller, and Margaret Hill preceded him in death.

At Tom’s request, he was cremated, and his remains were scattered in the Pacific Ocean off the California Coast. The Neptune Society handled the arrangements.
