Darlene E. Best, 88, of Webster City died on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Darlene Evelyn Hensley was born on June 15, 1935, to Shellie and Mrytle (Freed) Hensley in Fort Dodge, Iowa and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1953. Darlene Evelyn Hensley was united in marriage to Donald R. Best on Friday, March 13, 1953. After their marriage the couple made Webster City their home. Darlene and Don were married 67 years before Don passed away on November 17, 2020. Darlene was a homemaker. She was a stranger to no one. Darlene loved raising their children and being involved in her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren’s life. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking, and spending holidays with her family.
Darlene is survived by her children, Kirk (Pam) Best, Kreg Best, and Kristi (Milton) Mendoza; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Chad, Kaitlin, Kelli, Andrew, Jessie, and Heidi and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, and her 2 brothers, Robert and Don Hensley; and a half sister, Nancy Beisser.
