Bernard Ermels, 93, of Des Moines, formerly of Webster City, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at Graceland Cemetery — Section #35. Please join the family following the burial at 4101 76th Street in Urbandale for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Bernard John Ermels, son of Carl and Suzanne (Mariga) Ermels, was born May 9, 1930, in Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1948. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. On September 25, 1953, Bernie was united in marriage to Marian Raye PeCoy in Algona. He was a plumber for many years at Gadbury in Fort Dodge.
He is survived by his sons, Marty (Kathy) Ermels and Ron Ermels, all of Urbandale; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and sister, Martha Hill, of Webster City.
Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, in 2019; his parents, and sisters, Betty Patterson and Helen Lee.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #191, and past member of the Moose Lodge and Elks.
