SCOTT SHELDON

Scott Sheldon, 60, of Walcott, died Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Genesis Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. He was born December 19, 1960, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Leon and Joyce Chaney Sheldon. He graduated from Webster City High School with the class of 1979. He continued his education at Central College in Pella earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1983. While attending Central in Pella, Scott worked at Hy-Vee, it was while working here that he met the love of his life Janet Gleason. On August 20, 1983, after 9 months of dating the two of them were united in marriage in Knoxville, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Michael, Matthew, Justin, Jared, and Lindsey. Janet agreed to support Scott in his Hy-Vee career, she did not realize that meant moving 7 times all over the Midwest to manage their kitchen and catering services. He took a break from Hy-Vee for six years to own and operate the Hickory House Restaurant. He did return to Hy-Vee for the last 7 years of his career. He worked a total of 34 years at Hy-Vee and worked in over 9 stores in that timeframe. Though his career took them to many communities the Sheldon family always engrained themselves in that community and made many lifelong friends. Scott was an avid sports fan and cheered especially loud for the Raiders, Iowa Hawkeye and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. His sports trivia knowledge was second to none. Scott cherished time spent with his children watching sports, listening to music, and playing card games. He also enjoyed collecting sports trading cards and stamps. He was a talented cook and baker, he thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking and then sharing his creations with family and friends. In his youth he enjoyed playing baseball and earning money from his paper route. He was a dedicated, supportive, and hardworking husband, father, and grandfather. As his illness left him feeling less than 100 percent many days, he still made it a point to attend his children’s activities. He never gave up on a miracle of a cure. He was a member of River City Church. He had a servant heart and was always looking for ways to leave the world a better place.

His family includes his wife of 38 years, Janet Sheldon of Walcott; five children, Michael Sheldon of Bisbee, Arizona, Matthew Sheldon of McNeal, Arizona, Justin Sheldon of Austin, Texas, Jared Sheldon of McNeal, Arizona, and Lindsey Sheldon of Johnston, Iowa; a grandson, Seth Sheldon; two sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Jim McNaul and Nancy and Pat O’Donnell; two brothers and their wives, Ron and Veronica Sheldon and Alan and Judy Sheldon; his father-in-law, William Gleason of Tracy; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and his buddy, Milo the dog.
