Robert “Bob” Sharer, 93, of Jewell passed away on Friday September 4, 2020 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City. A small private service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 1:30 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Private burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Sodersrtrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on July 7, 1927 near Melbourne, Iowa to Bert and Nellie (Meech) Sharer. He lived on several farms while growing up with his family. He went to country school and graduated from Clemons High School in 1946. Bob then went to work at a gas station in Marshalltown and also worked for a farmer near Liscomb. Bob married Betty (Isvik) Sharer in February 20, 1949 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Bob and Betty settled on a farm near Rhodes for two years and later moved to Hamilton County. They moved to their current farm near Jewell in 1952. Bob was a dedicated farmer all his whole life and loved driving his farm truck as well as storytelling.

Bob was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell since 1951, a former board member of the Jewell Coop, member of the Farm Bureau, Hitch n’ Go Driving Club, Iowa Draft Pony Association, and Mid-Iowa Tractor Association. He rode horses most of his life and bought his first team of ponies n 1974 and participated in many parades and horse shows up until 2012. He had many teams throughout the years. In 2013-15, he was using an antique tractor and later a pickup in the parades. He also went on many trail rides and was inducted into the Iowa Draft Pony Hall of Fame at the State Iowa Fair in 2004.

Bob is survived by his three children, Linda (Ron) Wheeler, Larry (Donna) Sharer and Jerry Sharer and daughter-in-law, Gloria Sharer. He is survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by sister, Kathy Troen Young and brother, Dick (Jeanne) Sharer and several nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, son James, brothers, Woodrow (Donna) Sharer, Jack (Lucille) Sharer and Billy (Thelma) Sharer; sisters, Frances (Ted) Hay, Gertrude (Clyde)Sipes and Delores (Dale) Anselme and brother-in-law, Knute Troen and infant sister, Lois.
