BRAD HAMES

Brad Hames, 48, longtime teacher and coach of Ackley, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 in Ackley.

Due to unforeseen circumstances in the immediate family, the memorial visitation for Brad Hames of Ackley has been postponed until a later time, to be announced. The family extends their deep appreciation for the many expressions of sympathy during this very difficult time. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Brad and his family.

Brad Michael Hames, son of Michael R. and Rosalie (Klaver) Hames was born March 18, 1972 in Story City, Iowa. He was raised in Webster City, Iowa and graduated from Webster City High School in 1990. He attended the University of Northern Iowa where he played baseball and graduated in 1995. Brad also played minor league baseball as a pitcher for the Huron Heaters in South Dakota. He married Tracy Terhark in 1999 and lived in the Ackley community. Brad started his teaching career at AGWSR school system where he taught elementary, middle and high school students. He spent many years coaching basketball, golf and baseball resulting in multiple accomplishments, leading two teams and two individuals to a state golf competition and two state basketball tournaments as the assistant coach.

Brad enjoyed all sports and was a fierce competitor, especially when it came to golf with his friends and family, because as he always said, “It’s an easy game”. He enjoyed coaching and attending Alex and Alyssa’s sporting events and when he wasn’t busy with school or sports, he enjoyed taking on painting jobs in the community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand in time of need and appreciated how the AGWSR communities reciprocated that help when he needed it.

Brad was able to enjoy many fishing trips this past summer with great friends. He travelled to Minnesota and Lake Michigan to try his skill at different fishing strategies. His favorite place, however, was Halley’s Camp in Canada. He could have spent months up there searching for that elusive giant to hang on the wall at the deer shack. He also enjoyed spending time with friends at coffee hour or encouraging friends with “just one more” when he wasn’t quite ready for the night to end.

Brad Michael Hames is survived by his wife, Tracy of twenty years; son, Alexander and daughter, Alyssa Hames; his parents, Michael and Rosalie Hames; sister, Nancy (Darin) Baack; mother and father in-law, Curtis and Arlene Terhark; sisters in law, Kristine Medin and Kelley Terhark; aunts, Joyce (Jack) Ferrell, Gloria (George) Rasmussen, Carolyn Klaver as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; uncle, Leland Klaver and a cousin, Kent Klaver.

Brad was so proud of his children and all the accomplishments they have had and will have in the future. He was a supportive husband who quietly took care of the home and Tracy. He will be dearly missed by all.
