ARLISS M. NIELSEN

WOOLSTOCK — Arliss Morse Nielsen, the son of Morse F. and Beatrice (Tveit) Nielsen, was born June 11, 1933, on a farm in Woolstock Township, Iowa. He attended country school at Head Grove in Woolstock Township before graduating from Eagle Grove High School with the “Class of 1951”, and then attended Eagle Grove Junior College. Arliss joined the Iowa National Guard and was later honorably discharged.

On August 14, 1955, Arliss was united in marriage to Jacqueline Paulson at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. They made their home on the family farm northeast of Woolstock and raised three children. Arliss fed hogs and cattle and farmed for over 60 years and received the Iowa Farm Environmental Award in 2013 for being a conservationist and land steward.

Arliss was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon and a board trustee. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, served as a 4-H Leader along with Dean Grandgeorge and revitalized the Woolstock chapter and was a former President of the Woolstock Coop Board.

Arliss passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Wilson and her husband, Glen.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Nielsen of Woolstock; three children, Randy Nielsen (Jill Fortney) of Mason City, Todd Nielsen (Anne) of Webster City and Shelly Hogan (Scott) of Weston, WI; grandchildren: Tyler Nielsen (Tara), Bennett Nielsen, Corbin Nielsen (Taylor), Andrew Nielsen, Lana Clark (Dan), Krista Hogan and Miranda Hogan and great grandchildren: Tory and Tate Nielsen and Eliza Clark.

Private family services will be at a later date.
