The spirit of giving during the holidays kicks off today with the annual Gift Trees now up, decorated with wishes. Located at two different Webster City sites, there are many who hope the trees will be bare soon, with holiday giving to include children with high hopes for a nice Christmas.
There are two trees: one is located at Availa Bank and the other tree is at the Kendall Young Library. The tags can be claimed starting today by shoppers who are willing to spread Christmas cheer to families and children unknown to them. The process is simple. Choose tags from the tree, record in the books beside the tree what you have taken, and include personal contact information.
After shopping for the gifts requested, return the gifts to the church that is on the back of the tag by Sunday, Dec. 6.
When the air turns chilly, it reminds us that the holidays are approaching and that there are many people in our community who could use a little help to make Christmas a little brighter. The Gift Trees hope to do just that. The mission is to help families in need provide Christmas gifts for their children who are 18 years old and younger.
The Gift tree project is a joint project that is coordinated between the Webster City Ministerial Association, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, the Kendall Young Library and Availa bank.
Participation in the Gift Tree project is voluntary, and guidelines have been established to qualify children eligible. Upper Des Moines Opportunity processed all the applications and a spending limit is $100 per child.
Once the gifts are purchased, there will be multiple designated gift pick-up sites. All gifts should be picked up from the church named on the back of the tag. Families participating in the Gift tree project should plan to collect the gifts on Sunday, December 13, from 2-4 p.m., or by prior arrangement.
