Webster City schools celebration National School lunch week

“Cafeteria Circus” is this year’s theme

This week, the Webster City Community School District celebrates National School Lunch Week. The theme, "Cafeteria Circus: Where Healthy Choices Take Center Stage," highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student's success both in and out of the classroom.

The National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children each day. WCCSD knows the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student's success both in and out of the classroom. A 2021 Tufts University study shows children are getting their healthiest meals of the day at school, with 76% of all school meals consumed by students being of high nutritional quality.

Our program and schools offer a healthy, balanced, nutritional meal to all students and serve meals that students know and like," said Lori Hartnett, Assistant Food Service Director. "National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program."

To match this years' theme, lunchrooms in the middle elementary, and preschools will have circus decor and students will be treated to daily fun facts, riddles, and coloring pages.

The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 80 years. Students can enjoy the convenience of a healthy school lunch for $3.00 at our elementary schools, $3.15 at our middle school, and $3.25 at our high school. Some students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. If you’re interested in applying for free and reduced lunch, please fill out the proper form online on the Webster City Community Schools website. Please limit one application per household, and return or mail the completed form to the Administration Building at 820 Des Moines Street Webster City, IA 50595.

The "Cafeteria Circus: Where Healthy Choices Take Center Stage" campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Read more about the NSLP at https://schoolnutrition.org/about-school-meals/national-school-lunch-week/.
