Volunteer Brunch for Meals on Wheels tomorrow

Webster City Meals on Wheels will hold its annual volunteer brunch tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home & Cremation Center. There will be a board meeting immediately following the brunch.
Meals on Wheels (MOW) depends on the generosity of its volunteers and community supporters. For more than 55 years, local residents, service organizations, churches, and businesses have helped sustain the program. Over the past two years, the program has made some significant operational changes.
Since 2008, meals had been prepared by Southfield Wellness Community, but that changed in January 2025 when Briggs Woods Conference Center took over. Briggs Woods continued in that role until June 30, when funding constraints forced MOW to find another meal provider. Thankfully, Grama's Diner, owned and operated by Donna Ryder, has stepped in to serve today's MOW clients.
Core organization members Jeanne Hill, Julie Tharp, and Kathy Josten held a special meeting in August to review the process for securing meal services and elect new officers. The meeting was needed following the recent passing of Bob Erickson, a program founder and the organization's current president. The core team met with Donna Ryder from Grama’s Diner, Pam Harklau of Hamilton County Public Health, Ann McLaughlin, and Joan VanDeer. The new officers are Ann McLaughlin, president; Jeanne Hill, vice president; Julie Tharp, secretary; and Kathy Josten, treasurer.
