Fish stories get results

Recent accounts of exceptional fine black bass fishing in the Boone river south of the city have brought results. Yesterday the banks of the river were literally covered with anglers intent on hooking some big ones, just as Don Kingsley and Ed Ostrander did the first three days of the week.

In three afternoons, Kingsley and Ostrander caught 34 large size black bass and the news got about so swiftly that scores of fishermen went out yesterday to try their luck. One angler, Henry Mahoney, landed three of the highly prized bass and others also reported good results.

Pedestrian overpass hearing set

The city council will hold a hearing on November 5 at 7:30 p.m. on the controversial Woolsey Avenue pedestrian overpass.

Plans for the proposed foot bridge over the Illinois Central railroad tracks have been completed by Rowatt and Murray, Belmond engineers.

The structure had been requested in a petition signed by most residents of the Samuelson addition. At a recent meeting, some of the original petitioners objected to the council's plan to assess the total cost of the structure against the property owners in the benefitted area.

The estimated cost of the pedestrian overpass is slightly more than $9,000 and the assessment against the average home in the Samuelson addition would be $160.
