Aerial circus here a big success

Hamilton County people saw their first aerial circus today and they liked it.

It was a beautiful day, clear and bright and the planes were within easy sight all the time. A big crowd was in the city, especially at the afternoon programs. The merchants all reported a good business and more than satisfied with the day.

The city authorities cooperated nicely. Six extra policemen were on traffic duty and closed the business sections of Second St. during the performances because so many people were out in the middle of the street, peering into the sky. The streets were crowded for all three performances and the crowds were more than pleased with the work of Mr. Shifflett and his aerial company – all of whom are fliers of experience and men who thoroughly.

The first performance this morning was a thriller, as likewise were the two this afternoon.

The added attraction of having three planes in the air at the same time, more zest in the performance. The feature act this morning was staged by Ray Shifflett, himself, owner of the circus. With the plane of Indian George McConnell high above him at an altitude of some 5,000 feet and that of Fred Strunte sailing about still higher at an estimated altitude of somewhere near 15,000 feet. Shifflett, flying low as compared to the other planes, did the barrel roll.

The wing walking of "Nervy" Murphy was little short of marvelous, Shifflet flew his plane fairly low for this act, in order that the crowds might get a good view of the daring work that Murphy did.
