Prof. Coville of Ames talks on Forest situation at Nature Study Division
Prof. Perkins Coville, of the forestry department at Iowa State college, Ames, spoke interestingly on the "Forestry Situation in the United States" last evening at the first meeting of the Nature Study department of the Women's club. Preceding his talk, Mrs. Coville, accompanied at the piano by Miss Rosalind Cook, sang three delightful numbers. Her group included an arrangement of Handel’s “Largo" sung in Italian; "Now sleeps the Crimson Petal," and Joyce Kilmers "Trees."
Prof. Coville told of the immense uses of wood in this country. He spoke of the gradual change of the center of the forestry regions, first being located in the east and gradually moving to the western coast.
The people of the United States are today consuming four or four and one half times as much wood each year as it grows. It is easy to see that with the steady increase in population, this supply will eventually give out. He quoted figures, saying that each week, the pulp from 2500 acres of pulp wood land was used in the Sunday editions of newspapers.
Two well known Webster City Sportsmen to appear before judge
With no favorites being played in regard to the arrest of the violators of traffic rules, the mauled fist of the law in Webster City struck its powerful blow this afternoon after William C. Fastenow had taken E. W. "Pat" Steinbauer for a ride in a wheelbarrow, the payment of a wager from the world series last year which Pat won.
The trouble originated when Bill went up Second St. from the Freeman-Journal office and "willfully, feloniously and maliciously" made a full "U" turn at the intersection of Des Moines and Second Streets, which is a direct violation of the City of Webster City's traffic regulations.
The violation was noted by Officer F.N. Baker of the local "mounted" police, who obtained warrants for their arrest and served them immediately. The hearing was set for later this afternoon.
The "criminals" late this afternoon plead guilty before Judge Burleson who sentenced them to pass a box of cigars around among the fans. This was later done up at Bill's drahm shop.

New ordinance would abolish city park board
In an effort to avoid duplication of equipment and overlapping of services, the city council last night adopted an ordinance which would abolish the present park board.
Current planning calls for replacement of the park board with a parks and recreation commission composed of seven members. Members of the proposed commission would be appointed by the city council rather than be elected.
The proposed parks and recreation commission would consist of one representative of the board of education, one representative from the Fuller Hall board of trustees, the city manager and four members appointed by the city council.

Depot could be used as unique shopping pull for WC
As many in the community are working and looking toward the future with new ideas on community branding and rejuvenating downtown businesses, City Manager Ed Sadler brought a proposal to Webster City's Historical Committee on Wednesday.
Ideas began to form for Sadler on how best to enhance the building and the park's assets and after hearing of the Chamber's work with the Branding Initiative,he came up with an idea. The Chamber is looking for an area to house an antique and art coop for area artists and dealers to sell their wares. Sadler stated that he would like to use the Depot as a way to get that started.
