The Annual Rotarian Turkey dinner was held Sunday at the Briggs Woods Conference Center. According to Rotarian Mark Dohms, 1235 meals were served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
33 Rotarians and three additional volunteers help serve the meal to drive-up customers. The food was prepared by Central Catering from Haywarden, Iowa. They have been the supplier of the turkey, dressing and gravy for years, and were able to provide all the food this year.
All the proceeds from the turkey dinner are used for local service and charitable projects.
"We have an ongoing five year commitment to give Meals on Wheels a portion of the proceeds from the dinner," said Dohms. The Rotary club also gives two scholarships to graduating seniors from WCHS and one scholarship to a graduate from South Hamilton annually. In addition, the Rotary Club of Webster City also sends two students to Grinnell College for the Youth Leadership Program. Other projects and charities also receive support from the Rotary Club throughout the year as needed, and all these funds are typically from the Rotary Turkey Dinner sales.
Nearly 100% of the food sales was pre-sold by Rotary Club members. There was a little food left over at the end of the day, and that was delivered to Beacon of Hope on Sunday.
Kyle Swon was chairman of this year’s event.
