It’s Homecoming Week

Lynx pride to shine all week long

By KOLLEEN TAYLOR 3 min read

Homecoming.

It’s the week when alumni and students alike, reflect and embrace the excitement and thrill of this unique high school experience. It’s when former graduates come back and help fill the stands, cheering on the current football team to make a mark on this significant day in a high school career.

It's the week when students and faculty alike pull out all the stops in showing off the Homecoming Spirit in Webster City. It's a week long of fun, zany dress-up outfits and tons of fun as the Lynx football team gets ready to play against Sioux City Bishop Heelen Friday night.

But there is a full week ahead and the schools have tapped all the creative brainpower to come up with themes for each day of the week, asking students and teachers to dress with the theme, asking students and staff to demonstrate their support of the football team.

The week kicks off with a little slumbering, as Pajama Day is the theme to kick off the week. Pajama Day encourages students and teachers alike to wear their comfiest, coziest apparel, but does not encourage them to sleep through their classes.

Tuesday will be Pattern Day. This can get pretty zany, with stripes, checks, polka dots, plaids, flowers, houndstooth, leopard or any other pattern to decorate the clothing for the day. It may be a day to step into a long forgotten wardrobe, or beg something from a parent, to fully embrace the need for patterns on Tuesday.

Wednesday is Class Color Day. For this week, both middle school and high school students and staff are assigned a color to wear. So take note. If in 9th grade or 5th grade, the color to wear is red; if in 10th grade or 6th grade, the color for the day is pink; if in 11th grade or 7th grade, the color for the day is purple, and if in 12th grade or 8th grade, the color for the day is blue. Staff throughout the Webster City Community Schools will be wearing black.

Thursday is not only Twin Day, but also Boom Night. Twin day needs two people who dress alike, it can be a friend, a teacher but a twin should be easily identified as paired with someone. This might take a little planning, a little coercion, and of course, anyone who will agree to be a twin. Since Boom Night starts at 7 p.m., your best twinning attitude is necessary to help create the fun and excitement for the night. And Thursday is also the night everyone learns who the 2026 Homecoming King and Queen will be to reign over the weekend festivities. Queen candidates are Amanda Lahr, Hayden McCoy, Aery Poppen, Lovie Pruisman and Tristyn Wright. King candidates are Grant Arends, Coyce Bertran, Luke Blake, Kaleb Hansen and Zach Lahr.

The last day of the week is a short one, but the most important one. Friday is Lynx Spirit Day, so dig out your favorite Lynx gear and wear it with pride, this is the day for the Homecoming parade, which begins at 2:30 p.m., and of course the Homecoming football game begins at 7 p.m.

The week wraps up with hopes of a celebration dance over Sioux City Bishop Heelen. The dance at the high school on Saturday night goes from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
