Iowa Works, the state agency charged with connecting workers with employers, has a new home in downtown Fort Dodge.

The new location in the former Wakhonsa School, 330 First Ave. N., was celebrated with a ribbon cutting Thursday morning conducted by the Ambassadors of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.

"This space allows us to better serve our community," said Faith Miller, regional manager of Iowa Works.

"We are here to help the community find employment," she said.

But Miller added that in addition to helping individuals find jobs, Iowa Works helps employers find workers. The agency held a job fair Thursday afternoon to help a poultry operation find workers.

For several years, Iowa Works had been located on the campus of Iowa Central Community College. In August 2025, it moved into the First Avenue North location. Miller said some renovations were completed in April of this year.

The Iowa Works space consists of an office area on the main floor and large open room in the basement to be used for events, workshops and job fairs.

The former Wahkonsa School is owned by the Webster County government. It leases space to Iowa Works and the state Department of Health and Human Services.
