Our local government is not just run by our elected officials, they also get support, guidance, and recommendations from various boards and commissions that are appointed each year. Getting appointed is not just about who you know, but it takes an application to the city.
There are multiple ways of stepping into a small leadership role, this is an ideal way to start learning about issues that are affecting your neighborhood, your business, and our entire community. There are boards that have a great need for more involvement, and this is an avenue that could lead to greater service
Typically terms expire May 31 of the year their term ends. But there are also resignations and deaths which create vacancies. Currently eleven vacancies on the various boards that should be filled, with half a year left before terms expire. The following is the list of vacancies for the City of Webster City:

Those appointed by the City Council of Webster City must be a resident of Webster City, fill out an application, which can be picked up at the City Manager's office at 400 Second St., and may undergo an interview

CITY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
Nine Members: Four year terms, seven members who are residents of the City appointed by the Council. Two members -five year terms shall be appointed by the County Board of Supervisors, one being a member of the Board of Supervisors, or the Board's designee, and the other member shall be a resident of the area outside the City over which the zoning jurisdiction of the City has been extended. (City Code Chapter 50 – Zoning, Iowa Code 414.6, 414.23 and 392.1.) Supervisors are on commission until county zoning is adopted.

There has also been a Youth Advisory Commission that has not been active for several years. This was a seven member commission, with six youth members for two year terms, and one city council member. All positions are appointed by the City Council. Each term expired June 1, and included youth between grades 6-8 and 9-12. Note this commission has not been active for several years.
