The Daily Freeman Journal made a big effort to help Webster City remember the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We carried stories of both local and national relevance, and even inserted a free keepsake edition of 9/11 stories produced by our sister papers in the Ogden Newspaper group, owners of the Daily Freeman Journal, on September 11 itself.
We felt we had done our best with an important story. Then, another story came to our attention, one that could make you stand up and cheer . . . for our country, and our football team.
Looking at this year's Lynx football schedule, Head coach Andy Brim took note of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: his Lynx would host the Clear Lake Lions at Lynx Field on Friday September 11, 2026, the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The school district named it, appropriately enough, USA Night.
Brim wanted to do something unforgettable for that game; something that eclipsed the importance of a home football game, which in this town at this time of year is saying something.
He teamed-up with Jory Dyvig and Jenna Bergman, and their online custom apparel shop, Wildcard Custom Gear. They decided to make it into a fundraiser, Dyvig explained.
"Our standard 15% royalty fee would be passed on as a small way to honor those who continue serving our community and country."
It was true generosity meeting Lynx loyalty, a powerful force in anybody's estimation. They raised $524.95 for USA Night, and donated it to American Legion Post 191 in Webster City.
And it's not a case of one and done.
"The whole focus of our business model is to give back," Dyvig said. With 18 apparel shops on its website today, and the promise of more to come, there will be many more opportunities for fans to get the loyalty gear they want, and support their favorite local sports teams, too.
