Webster City Community Theatre will hold auditions for The Roommate by Jen Silverman on Sunday, Sept. 20, and Monday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the theatre, 1001 Willson Ave., Webster City.
The darkly funny and unexpected comedy features roles for two women and explores friendship, reinvention and what can happen when two very different lives collide.
The Roommate centers on Sharon, a recently divorced woman in her 50s who lives alone in a big house in Iowa and is looking for a roommate. Enter Robyn, a mysterious woman from the Bronx with an unconventional past and plenty of secrets. As the two women get to know one another, Robyn introduces Sharon to a world far outside her quiet Midwestern existence. Before long, both women begin to discover that it's never too late to shake things up, take a few risks and reinvent yourself.
The play blends sharp humor with surprising twists while offering two substantial roles for women. Those interested in auditioning are encouraged to attend either audition evening. No advance preparation is necessary.
Anne Blankenship will direct WCCT's production, with KeVon Edwards serving as assistant director and stage manager.
Performances of The Roommate are scheduled for Nov. 5-8 at Webster City Community Theatre.
