Murray McMurray wins on birds at State Fair
Murray McMurray, who exhibited eleven birds in the state fair poultry show, received eight prizes.
His pen of five Jersey Black Giants was awarded second. He also won first cock and first hen for the Black Cochin bantams and second cock for Partridge Cochin bantams.

Blairsburg Happy Hustlers team wins contest at fair
Ariole Bottorff and Donna Jean Daniels, members of the Blairsburg Happy Hustlers 4-H demonstration team, won first place in the contest at the county fair with their demonstration on "Braided Rugs."
Their award will be a trip to the 4-H state convention in Ames in the spring as guests of the fair board.
Hamilton County's champion team, Luella Naylor and Betty Jean Cottington of the Webster-Marion club, gave its demonstration on "Bedside Unit" as a special feature of the contest. These girls won first in the Achievement day contest and represented this county at the state fair.

Named Jaycee of the year
Tom Halverson has been named Outstanding Jaycee of the Year in Webster City and an award was presented to him at the recent meeting when new officers were also installed. Immediate Past President Wayne Eddy made the presentation.
Dale Hansen flew with presidents...now he's enjoying old friends again
For Dale Hansen, Webster City has been home and is again. For Mary Jane or "Kim" Hansen, Webster City is a new home.
He grew up here and graduated from Webster City High School before he spent four years away from here as a member of the United States Marine Corps. She graduated from high school in Sacramento in June of 1976 and by August of that year was in boot camp.
The two met while both were stationed in the Washington, D.C., area, and well, here they are.
Hansen has returned to a job as meat cutter at Fareway, a position he had held part time while he was in high school. Mrs. Hansen is taking classes at the Webster City campus of Iowa Central Community College with hopes of obtaining her degree here in business and then going on to Iowa State University to study marketing and accounting.
Neither had uneventful careers in the service. Both were stationed at bases or saw duty which will be beyond the experiences of most Americans.
Hansen began his marine corps days in boot camp at San Diego and was sent to Memphis for schooling in helicopter hydraulic systems. He had further training in California and then was assigned to Washington D.C. where he was a member of the crew for the presidential helicopter squad.
For three years, mostly with President Jimmy Carter, he went where the president went, flew with the crew which transported government leaders from around the world and had an opportunity to see other countries to which the president traveled.
He went to Italy when Carter went there for summit talks and he went to Japan when Carter went there for a funeral. He went to Alaska when Carter went fishing and he went to Camp David and Georgia many times.
"I flew the Pope to Living History Farms, too," Hansen recalls, "And I flew with Sadat and Begin and with other leaders of our government and other governments."

Council, ABI target downtown sidewalk plan
Yes, they want them fixed.
No not necessarily right away, unless of course, they pose an imminent safety risk.
So goes a discussion of sidewalks in Webster City's downtown business district. Local business owners and Chamber representatives joined with Webster City City Councilmen Tuesday night to talk about an aggressive plan to repair cracked and worn sidewalks in the downtown area.
Darwyn Williams of Williams Drugs proved to be the night's most ardent supporter of improving the appearance of downtown through repairing and upgrading the sidewalks.
In some areas, Williams noted, the sidewalks are "not only a disgrace, but also a liability." More business owners, he said, would take it upon themselves to fix their sidewalks "if there was a rule that says everybody (will) fix their sidewalk."
His comments came as councilmen considered a new sidewalk enforcement policy.
