City's Moose show off new home at dedication
Members of Webster City's Loyal order of the Moose are showing off their new home on highway 20 west at a dedication program this evening.
Paul Clouse, lodge governor and Bob Estlund were responsible for the open house that drew 250 visitors last evening.
Today visiting Moose from all over Iowa are guests of the Webster City Lodge. A smorgasbord dinner and a dance will be features of the evening program.
The actual dedication of the new $50,000 lodge is scheduled tomorrow with Paul E. McCarville, past supreme governor as guest speaker. Addresses of welcome will be given by Glen Mason, State Moose president and Mayor John Whaley of Webster City.

15 attend meet to study plan for creek dam
Fifteen Webster City officials, county officials, property owners and interested local businessmen attended a meeting in Des Moines yesterday on the proposed project of building a dam here on Lyon's creek.
The group heard Des Moines attorney Dave Belin explain how a development corporation of which he is a member had created a lake and housing area known as Lakewood, south of Des Moines of Highway 48.
Several months ago, the city council appointed a committee to exploit ways and means of erecting a dam on Lyons creek generating a 70 acre lake just east of Webster City.
The lake would be created by reinforcing the north side of the 37 foot Illinois Central railroad track grade for a distance of approximately 800 feet at the point where Lyons creek flows under the Illinois Central tracks to the north of the Blue Top and Shady Oak Motels. The dam would stretch from the tracks north and east to the area south of the county home.
City Manager Homer Ankrum and Council committeeman Morris Westervelt indicated today that interest in the lake is running high.

Seek bids on new park shelter
Bids are being sought for this unique combination warming house and picnic shelter house which the Webster City park commission plans to erect in the new Brewer's Creek Park area, park commission members said today. The structure, to be located near the base of the Hospital hill, will feature doors which can be folded open for summer time use by picnickers, then closed in the wintertime for those enjoying sliding on the nearby hill or those using the planned skating pond can come inside to get warm before the fireplace.
A parking area is being built up at the entrance to the park sector off Beach St. and will be leveled off and seeded. An entrance to the park zone from Des Moines St. will be completed later. Don Follett is chairman of the park board with Harold (Skip) Stark as secretary and Barb Carpenter as the third board member.

County hosts conservationists
Nearly 400 people converged on Briggs Woods Park Friday as Hamilton County hosted the annual conference of the Iowa Association of County Conservation boards.
Delegates from 96 Iowa counties attended workshops throughout Briggs Woods that highlighted the second day of a three-day conference jointly hosted by the Hamilton and Webster County conservation boards.
"Through the workshops we hope to educate and provide ideas for policy-makers of Iowa conservation boards," said Brian Holt, director of the Hamilton County Conservation Board.

Commission tours local parks
Members of the Webster City Parks and Rec reaction commission met late Thursday afternoon for a tour of the city's parks. The tour gave commission members a chance to look for possible future improvement and areas that will need renovation.
Prior to leaving on the tour, the commission discussed some of the monthly business. The final budget report was handed out, although discussion was left for the next meeting.
The Boone River Trail design is being finished, and the goal is for bid letting to begin next month, according to Park & Recreation Director, Kent Harfst. Harfst also informed commission members that they have been invited to the next Planning and Zoning meeting.
Members who took the tour included Chris Kehoe, Jon Doolittle, Kent Harfst, Ann Kness and Brent Johnson.
Stratford moves ahead with water system project
STRATFORD – Stratford City Council members moved ahead on phase II of water distribution improvements for their community when they met in regular session earlier this week. Don Sampson of MER Engineering was present to meet with the council.
Bids will be solicited for this phase of the project, with bid letting set for the October council meeting. The bids will not include the Ross Town section of Straytford, but it will be included in the project.
