Legion men off to convention: Drum and Bugle Corps go and will pay most own expense
A good sized delegation of Webster City American Legion men will leave tomorrow for the state convention in Clinton. Others will leave early Monday morning. The convention meets Monday and will b e in session over Wednesday.
Despite the fact that the fund started to send the drum and bugle corps to this convention is less than half the amount needed, the boys are going anyway and will pay most of their own expenses. They have a large banner which they will carry in the parade and are certain to make a big hit. The fund raised for them through the Freeman-Journal amounted to $97.50.

Initial steps toward sanitary 'dump' taken
First steps toward establishment of a modern, land-fill garbage disposal area for Webster City are being taken this week with drawing up by City Manager C.C. McCarthy of specifications for new dirt moving equipment which could be used at the disposal site.
The city manager said today he hopes to have the specifications ready by next Monday evening for the regular council meeting at which time consideration of purchase of the machines will be taken up.
35 turn out for initial chorus session
Thirty-five members of the Webster City male chorus turned out last evening for the first rehearsal of the new season, it was announced today by Percy Long, business manager of the choral group.
Three new board members were named for the year – V.I. Arney, Ray Bruner and Dick Fleischer. They succeed Bob Ostlund, Milo Foster and John Hunter. Mrs. Joe B uell, director and Long are also members of the board, being automatically named to that position under the chorus regulations.
A.W. Langerak and Ivan Hutson were elected as librarians and Long was named as business manager for the year.
The chorus this year will have a membership of around 45 and already has one out-of-town engagement at Story City during November. Last evening’s rehearsal was devoted to trying out four new numbers to be added to the choral repertoire and to practice on two of last year's chorus favorites.

McDonald's aims at Oct. 5 opening
October is the projected opening date for the new McDonald's restaurant hre, according to Development Engineer Al Indy. Indy works out of the McDonald's regional office in Minneapolis. Kitchen equipment should be installed by Sept. 18 and the tables and chairs go in Sept. 19 and 20, a worker for BARCO said. BARCO, from Algona, is the general contractor for the $300,000 restaurant.
Honor charter members, mark 40th anniversary
The honoring of charter members was the main order of business Sept. 8 when members of the Catholic Daughters met for a potluck meeting.
Regent Donna Wolfram conducted the meeting and Mary Scienzinski read a history of the group, mentioning its charitable projects and donations.
The minutes of the local group's first meeting, which was held 40 years ago were read and charter members were presented with a gold silk rose.
Those who were present included Mary Christeson, Delores Gingery, Delores Isham, Irene Shanley and Lucille Wagner. Margaret Karr, another charter member, was not present in addition to a rose which will be taken to Evelyn Mahoney, the first regent of the group.

Development committee to attend meeting in Cedar Falls
Late last winter representatives of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce, Webster City Development Corporation, Webster City Main Street and Webster City Council began meeting on a regular basis to discuss the coordination of activities and cooperation of efforts.
Kay Hagen, executive director of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce/Webster City Development Corporation commented, "As a committee, we see the need to be as focused as possible in order to realize our goals. Time, talents and funds for the development of Webster City's economy have to be used to the optimum advantage and this process will provide a direction for that to happen.
Those involved in the committee are representatives of a broad sector of the community and include Norm Skadburg, Bob Grathwohl, Don Newman, Jeff Plagge, Ron Birkestrand, Don McCollough, Jim McGlynn, Phyllois Murphy, Steve Doering, Audrey Warland, Bud Wood Jr., Steve Kehoe, Vic Hisler, Dean Bowden, Willie Van Wyhe, Bob Hays, Christine Mollenkopf, Kay Hagen, Bill Garner, Larry Massa, Bob Bullock, Gary Groves, Marvin Johnson and Miriam Ubben of Hamilton County SEED.
