New members of teaching corps are entertained by old members at Nokomis
The annual entertainment of the new members of the teaching corps, by former members, has become an institution in the social year of the school life of Webster City. Last night this affair was presented at Nokomis park from 4 to 7 o'clock.
The teachers and members of the school board assembled at Lincoln High school and were taken to the park where several athletic stunts and a kitten ball game produced much amusement. No telling what the score might have been for the new members played against the old timers – but when the game was at its most tense moment, the mess call broke it up and the company was served cafeteria style to a bountiful repast.
The long table under the pavilion could not seat all the guests, so the serving committee ate at the small shack. Seventy-five were served at once and a merry gathering it was indeed. Some observed that Principal Siverson needs some instructions from the Boy Scouts as to how and where to kindle a camp fire, but at all events, a roaring fire was made and the coffee hissed and bubbled, the creamed potatoes – two huge dishpans full of them, sent out their fragrance to tempt the appetite.

Scouts turn out for big fall roundup
Nearly 125 girl scouts enjoyed their annual fall roundup Saturday at Kendall Young Parking, turning out early for a scrambled egg and bacon breakfast served up by members of the scout council.
Fifteen Girl Scout and Brownie troops were represented at the roundup, council officers said today in commenting on the success of the big event.

Groundbreaking ceremony held at Custom Meats
The ground breaking ceremony for $250,000 addition was held at 10:45 this morning for Webster City Custom Meats, Inc.
Jim Bergkamp, president of the corporation and its manager, stated that their existing operation will stay the same. The 10,000 square feet addition will house facilities for ham, bacon and link sausage processing for institutional and restaurant businesses.
Fall musical cast is finally selected
Schools Journal – Tryouts for the fall musical, The Yankee Doodle were held Monday August 30.
Those receiving speaking parts in the cast were: Dave Nott-Arthur; Janet Jeffers – Audrey; Patti Spellmeyer – Carol; Donna Poland-Cass; Dave Fretz – Duke; Jerita Peterson – Gina; Jeff Block – Harry; Jane Tabor – Heather; Mark Pittman-Mr. Hurley; Cindy Brizius – Janet; Sonja Anderson – June; Sue Fort-Lillian; Karin Harfst – Mary; Dave Breen – Mike; Cindy Hoffman – Mrs. Norton; Nancy Meade – Miss Phillips; Rich Ayers – Proprietor of the restaurant; Gary Henning – Tom; Diane Lehman – waitress; Jim Greufe, Matt Bell and Dave Christianson – patrons of the restaurant.
These students have approximately 60 hours of practice ahead before reaching the production dates of Nov. 10, 12 and 13.
Students experience scheduling
Schools Journal – Students attending WCHS this year are being introduced to a new policy, the scheduling of 80 percent of their time. The policy was adopted to bring the students and teachers together for learning more often.
The plan is an attempt to ensure that each student's free time is used to maximum advantage. Students were asked to sign themselves up in different areas during free mods where their teachers can help.

Jubilee Day returns Saturday
The 23rd Annual Jubilee Day will b e celebrated from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bonebright Museum complex in Webster City.
The day's events are planned to be better than ever, and fit for every member of the family, with contests, demonstrations, food stands, machinery rides and more attractions. When was the last time you arm wrestled or attended a beard contest? Curious to see the oldest car, truck or tractor in the county?
Those being honored this year are Bill Rexroat, Charles Aldridge and the Heritage Hunters as well as one "mystery" guest.
The Old Times Band and LaVerne Alvestad will provide music.
Officers named
Jean Fox was elected chairman of the Briggs Woods Ladies League for the coming year. Jane Wesselman was named co-chair, Dorothy Orton was named treasurer, Laurie Graham was named secretary and Rose Newman morning chairman. The winners of the ladies league tournament Championship flight were Carla McCollough with a 90 for first place, Norma Rasmussen, 902 second place and Marily Malloy 93 for third place.
