Special Adult Programs
Historic Stroll Along Willson Avenue - Patrons of all ages are invited to a Historic Stroll Along Willson Avenue on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Jane Young House. This stroll will explore the history and architecture of one of the first streets in Webster City. Valerie Rickert will be the local tour guide with her love and knowledge of local history. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Journey of the Forgotten: The Orphans of Hamilton County, Iowa - Join us at the Southfield Wellness Community on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. to hear of the Journeys of the Forgotten: The Orphans of Hamilton County, Iowa. Author and Certified Genealogist will be guiding us through the stories of the Orphans that she has included in her book.
In the fall of 1890, 46 orphans were delivered to Hamilton County, Iowa by the Children's Aid Society of New York City. Initially, the names of the children were not revealed, but seventeen of the foster parents were. With that basic information, Jill set about to identify the orphans, write the biographies of each, identify their New York City and foster parents, and publish the findings.

Puzzle Competition (Age 13+) - Register for a fast-paced Puzzle Competition at your level! Kendall Young Library is hosting a Halloween Puzzle Competition for teams of 4 to finish the puzzle first. Participants looking for some friendly competition can sign up online or call KYL. Join us on Saturday, October 31 beginning at 10:30 a.m. to test puzzling skills! This event is free. Teams of 4 must include a minimum of one adult. Space is limited – registration is required.
Special Events - Look for Kendall Young Library to be out and about in the community this month at fun events like Ladies Night Out on October 22 and Webster City Downtown Trunk-Or-Treat on Oct. 29.
Monthly Adult Programs
Adult Daytime Book Club – Kendall Young Library invites all to join the October Book Club discussion about How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin. Books are available at the Adult Checkout if you are interested in participating. We will be meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the meeting room to discuss. A book for the November Book Club will be announced and available at this time.
Adult Evening Book Club – Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the Adult Evening Book Club discussion on the book The Only One Left by Riley Sager. Books are available at Kendall Young Library. We will be meeting on Wednesday, October 14 in the meeting room from 6 – 7 p.m. to discuss.
Books & Bourbon Silent Book Club - Kendall Young Library is working with Wildcat Distilling Co. to offer patrons a Silent Book Club. Adults are invited to gather at Wildcat Distilling Co. on Thursday, October 15th from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Bring a book, grab a drink, and enjoy an introvert happy hour! This event will be held at Wildcat Distilling Co. in Webster City (713 2nd Street) and is always the third Thursday of each month.
Adult DIY - Kendall Young Library will be throwing out the welcome mat to inviting all to join with other library patrons on Monday, October 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. This DIY will be personalizing your own doormat! We have all the supplies for a fun evening and bring a friend! In preparation for the event and limited supplies, registration is suggested, but not required.
Fiber Arts Hangout - Thursday, October 8 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Kendall Young Library will be hosting a time to work on your favorite fiber arts project. Join us in the Genealogy Area where there are patrons available who can help if you want to start learning how to crochet, but you are welcome to bring your own project to work on and socialize. This is a fun time to relax and learn from others. All ages 16+ are invited to come and some supplies will be available. There is no registration required.
Spice Club – Kendall Young Library invites you to add some spice to your life with the KYL Spice of the Month Club. We will be featuring Chinese Five Spice beginning Friday, October 2. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last.
This is a fun way to explore different cultures and flavors. Each month there will be a featured herb or spice. A limited number of kits will be available each month with a small sample, information about the spice, and a couple recipes to try.
