O.J. Henderson to build two story building on Des Moines Street near Division
Work on a new $17,000 two story brick building to be erected by O.J. Henderson will start Monday, according to an announcement made today. The new building will be erected on the west side of Des Moines Street, next to the oil station at the corner of Division St. The new building will be 22 to 60 feet.
The Henderson and Jones law firm will occupy the ground floor of the building with the offices of the Lane Moore Lumber company being on the second floor. The law firm has been corporation counsel for the lumber company for many years and with both firms being located in the same building, each will be more conveniently located.
The building will be well located, being only a short distance from the heart of the business section of the city and just one block from the county court house.
The front of the new building, through it's simplicity,will lend beauty to the structure. Nothing elaborate is planned but the specifications show that the offices will be so arranged as to be most efficient. The ground floor to be occupied by the law firm will have a large reception room at the front with Miss Eleanor Jones office being centrally loathed and the office of Mr. Henderson at the rear.

County Quiz team gains
Hamilton county's "Quiz Derby" team of three rural school students has placed among the top eight at the Iowa State fair and will compete in the semi-finals of the meet Thursday Noon, Mrs. Edith Byerly, county superintendent of schools reported today.
Doris Leaf and Kenneth Erickson of Poplar Grove and Gretchen Yungclas of Fremont No. 9 make up the team which successfully survived first round competition which has been going on at the Iowa State fairgrounds for the past three days.

Second St. must be widened, city told
Resurfacing of Second ST. will be included in an Iowa State Highway commission program for resurfacing highway 20 from Rockwell City to Blairsburg providing sufficient width for a modern highway is provided, a Webster City delegation was told at Ames this orning.
Representatives of the city planning commission, the city council and the Chamber of Commerce were told of plans to modernize highway 20 at a meeting with Highway Commission members at Ames.
The Webster City group was told that unless the city can provide four 12-foot traffic lanes and two eight-foot parking lanes on Second St., the highway commission will make plans to bi-pass the city.
Webster City's Second St., is now only 54 feet wide between Prospect and Superior St. Five feet would have to be removed from the sidewalk on each side of the street to meet the state standards to provide the parking strips or the city could ban parking on Second St.

Swinging Singles Show held by Saddle Club here
Ten classes were run Wednesday when members of the Hamilton County Saddle Club held their Swinging Singles show.
Tandem Bareback winners were Carol Draper and Cheri Hemmen. Finishing in the next three places were Cindy Hoffman and Luanne Walker, Mark Dunbar and Mike Raner and Jerry Sharer and Becky Rockow.
Jerry Sharer won the barrels with Becky Rockow, Mark Dunbar, Connie Brock and Cindy Hoffman taking other places.
Overall race honors went to Mark Dunbar with Connie Brock, Luanne Walker, Jerry Sharer and Cindy Hoffman finishing behind him.
Becky Rockow won at poles, with Jerry Sharer, Mark Dunbar, Tony Nessa and Mike Raner taking the other places.
Pleasure class winner was Carol Draper. Wendy Wiese, Luanne Walker, Jerry Sharer and Connie Brock took the other positions.
Mike Raner won the beer race with Tony Nessa, Jerry Sharer, Mark Dunbar and Carol Draper coming in next.
Izzy Dizzy winner was Luanne Walker. Tony Nessa, Connie Brock, Cheri Hemmen and Mark Dunbar were other winners.
Goat tie honors went to Tony Nessa. Other finishers were Jerry Sharer, Connie Brock, Luanne Walker and Becky Rockow.
The Dolly Pardon Box Sweepstakes winner was Connie Brock. Luanne Walker was next with Tony Nessa, Cindy Hoffman and Jerry Sharer finishing in the other top spots.
Mark Dunbar was first in the boot race. Jerry Sharer, Luanne Walker, Cindy Hoffman and Larry Sharer took the other places.

Hamilton County buys DOT maintenance shed
The now closed Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance shed, located south of Webster City on Highway 27 will be purchased by the Hamilton County Secondary Roads department following action by the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors this morning.
"A situation arose in July," said Supervisor David Young, "with the unexpected closing of the DOT maintenance facility. Hamilton County has been given the opportunity to purchase the building.
