Biggest Event Held Yet at Municipal Pond
More than 700 youngsters and spectators turned out yesterday for the annual Kids Fishing Party at the city pond, G. D. Warland of station KJFJ, the party’s sponsor, said this morning in listing the winners of the annual competition.

“It was the biggest fish party we’ve ever had.”
Charles Hubbard of 204 North Des Moines street, using two poles which kept him mighty busy, snagged 79 fish to walk off with the major prize of the day for the most fish--a week’s vacation with his family at West Okoboji. The Hubbard family will be guests in a rent-free cabin with a boat provided for their use on the lake.
Race for First

British couple kidnapped here; spend day at the county fair
A young English couple, arriving here all the way from Sheffield, England, were abruptly "kidnapped" this morning by city police and sheriff's department officials and "sentenced" to spend a day at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds as guests of the county fair board.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cooper who have been enjoying a visit with Mrs. Cooper's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pippen, at 809 Cedar St., were just a bit shocked to see two official cars with the lights flashing and siren sounding, drive up and a delegation hustle up to the front door.
Police Chief Al Shehorn and Deputy Sheriff Jerry Farnham notified the Coopers that they were being "taken into custody on behalf of the Hamilton County fair board."
"Do you have on comfortable shoes?" Chief Shehorn asked the couple. "We hope you do because you'll be spending the day at the fair."
Miss Sue Slawson, 1970 Miss Hamilton County Fair queen then presented Mrs. Cooper with a corsage and Mr. Cooper with a boutonniere, then the group accompanied by Mrs. Gary Nail, who is serving as hostess and guide for the kidnapped couple during the day, hurried to the police car.
