Council to ask job be PWA project
The city council last evening received a petition asking for the paving of five blocks of Broadway between Second and Elm streets.While no definite action was taken, it is the plan of the council to set up a PWA project under which government funds will be used for at least 45 percent of the cost.
The petition was formally presented by J. E. Burnstedt, L. A.Lehnhard a n d L. E. Crowter, abutting residents on the proposed paving. The petition was signed by abutting and there was no opposition to the proposal.The petitioners, however, ask for the paving conditional on the cost not exceeding $3 per square yard. The job, if done, will be of reinforced concrete.

FFA-Kiwanis Plan Session
The Webster City F. F. A. chapter and Kiwanis club will jointly sponsor a potluck dinner
and special meeting Tuesday evening at Elm Park school to which they have invited members of the Rotary and Lions club and their wives.
Speaker of the evening will be John Rees Williams, farmer from Wales, who is currently touring
the United States.
Williams, a 22-year-old resident of Felinfield, Lianelly, South Wales, will be staying this week
at the Orin Short farm northwest of Webster City where he will have an opportunity to see farming practices as they are carried out in Hamilton county.
Anyone interested in attending the meeting to hear Williams speak is welcome, Gardner Naden,
president of Kiwanis club, and Everett Clover, vocational agriculture instructor, said today.
Arends named Queen of rodeo
Rita Madsen Arends of Webster City was chosen queen of the Hamilton County fair rodeo by two rodeo judges.
The rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m.
Bob Barnes of Cherokee, rodeo promoter said about 32 entries are expected in the contest events which involve bulldogging, roping, bucking horses and Brahma bull-riding.

Top senior 4-H demonstration winners
The three top senior 4-H demonstration winners at the Hamilton County fair yesterday were
Leah Yungclas and Jann Anderson both of the Fremont Farm Fairies and JoAnn Crystal, a member of the Cass Red Peppers.
Leah and Jann were selected to represent the county senior girls at the Iowa State Fair with their demonstration, "Fun With Flowers." JoAnn who gave a demonstration on furniture arranging entitled, “Can You Stand a Change" will represent the county at Iowa Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo. They were the major winners of 10 demonstrations yesterday.

Iowa Central receives $1 million gift from Decker
Donald Decker, chairman of the Board of Decker Truck Line, Inc., of Fort Dodge, announced that his company, together with his parents. Dale and Donna Decker, are making a gift of $1,000,000 to Iowa Central Community College.
Decker Truck Line was founded in Fort Dodge in 1931 and provides truck transportation service throughout the United States with its fleet of 650 tractors and 1500 trailers.
“As a part of our 75th Anniversary, it is important that Decker Truck Line recognize the important role which Iowa Central plays in our community. We have partnered with Iowa Central in supporting its truck driver school for many years, providing both financial support and trucks, and, in turn, a number of our drivers have received their education and training at Iowa Central,” said Don Decker.
Dale Decker, who retired from the business a number of years ago, said, “Donna and I have lived in Fort Dodge throughout our 65 years of married life. Members of our family have attended Iowa Central and we recognize the importance of having the college in Fort Dodge. It is our hope that by making this gift, Iowa Central will continue to grow and expand its education al opportunities, particularly for those students seeking a career in the trucking business, which is such an important industry in Fort Dodge.”
With the announcement of this gift, Don Decker and his family have made a significant investment in Iowa Central, the transportation industry, Dodge and the region. Their gift will be used to endow scholarships which will allow more students to pursue careers in the transportation field, to endow a “Chair of Transportation” to oversee the new Transportation management and Logistics program, and solidify the College’s ability to add a diesel mechanic program and to relocate and expand the truck driving program.
The transportation industry is critical to the state of Iowa, one out of 13 Iowans are employed
in- the transportation field.
Groups plan presentation at Monday’s city council meeting
City council meetings don’t often draw a crowd in Webster City, but members of several
area organizations are hoping for a good turn-out at Monday’s regular meeting of the council.
Presentations are being planned by the Pride group. Volunteers here have been looking for a way to encourage local residents and property owners to clean up the community and make it a more attractive place to live and do business.
The Chamber’s Retail Branding Initiative also will be included in the discussion on Monday
night.
The third presentation will come from the Sesquicentennial Committee and Raspberry Festival volunteers, talking on the plans for a community festival from June 30 to July 2 next year.
