Taylor Nokes has been hired as the new Executive Director of the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Nokes is a Webster City native, and is the daughter of Kris Zahn and Denny Schnathorst. Graduating from Webster City High School in 2017, she is married to Cole Nokes, another native son from Webster City. He graduated from WCHS in 2016. They have two sons, Case, who is 2-½ years old and Callum who is 4 years old.

Nokes is also a graduate from Iowa State University. She has a degree in business management and worked for "Go-to Logistics," as a claims analyst out of Chicago prior to accepting the job here in Webster City.

Nokes was encouraged to apply for the job by Tami Hejlik, who held the position in the past. She was interviewed by Dan Culhane, Ottie Maxwell both of the Ames Alliance and Monica Haberman, the Webster City Chamber of Commerce President.

"As a local, I'm just very passionate that Webster City businesses are successful." Nokes said, "I'm really excited to leverage the knowledge and experience."

Her initial plans are to continue the great events of the chamber, she confirmed.

"I want to grow the relationships with the businesses," she said. "I want to be a person you can lean on."

She wants people to get to know her first and foremost.

"I want people to approach me, if you have ideas, bring them to me," she said.

When asked about how to handle the condition of the downtown buildings, she was candid.

"I wish they could all be preserved and maintained," she said, "But it takes money and time and resources for upkeep and to maintain. It's challenging."

Nokes, who will be hiring a part-time person to help at the office, will be reopening the Chamber office at 628 Second St. on September 1. At that time they will begin observing office hours from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. On Mondays, she will be in Ames at the Ames Alliance Monday morning "huddle".

Getting organized, getting acclimated and getting ready to tackle the next big thing for Webster City, is on her plate for now.
