Large turnout for Back to School Night

The Back to School night held Monday was designed to help parents and students get ready for school. And the families showed up in record numbers, with a crowd estimated to be over 200 people before 4 p.m.
The event, which opened it's doors at 3:30 p.m., had lines down the sidewalk, emphasizing the high level of participation this year.
According to Amanda Warweg, who coordinated the event, this is the fourth year for the Back to School night.
"The last couple of years have been focused on ELL (English Language Learners)," said Warweg. This was the first year it wasn't just for English Language learners.
Will Brock, who is the assistant principal at the middle school, said he thought last year there were less than 100 who came to the event.
Warweg, who is the Student Services Coordinator for the district, said they felt they should open this up to all students who attended school in the Webster City School District.
So they did, and it showed that this was needed.
This one-stop location allowed families and students at all levels of school to obtain free services for sports physicals, tech support for Infinite Campus, immunizations, food service support, hair cuts, dental screening and a free dinner to the first 300 people, in addition to school registration.
"I hope we run out of food," said Amelia Oliver, Webster City School District Communications Director. Administration officials were on hand to assist with traffic directions, questions, and other concerns that came up throughout the afternoon and evening.
In addition to services there were fun opportunities for participants, from photos with Max the Lynx Mascot to Corn Hole, there was plenty of activity for all ages
The event continued until 7:30 p.m. Monday.
