The Webster City City Council will address a number of resolutions tonight during their bi- monthly meeting of the council.
A public hearing will be held at 6:05 p.m. to consider renewing the City-Wide Urban revitalization plan for Residential Tax Abatement. This plan was originally established in 1993. According to the document in 1993, the city had seen a decline in the number of people living in Webster City, and the purpose was "the creation of tax abatement incentives to encourage people to build new housing units within Webster City and to provide for the substantial rehabilitation of existing substandard units.
In 1980 the population of Webster City was 8,572, with 3,433 housing units. In 1990, there was a population of 7,894, with 3,435 housing units.
According to the U.S. Census, between 2020 and 2024, the Webster City population was 7,825, with 3,250 households.
The tax abatement program lasts for three years after the construction.
In addition, a request from Ridge Construction will be considered to reduce the cost of a lot on North Terrace drive to $500.
They will also be setting a date for a public hearing to consider the proposed plans and specification and proposed form of contact and estimated cost of construction for the Mary Ann's Water Main Extension project.
Another item on the agenda is to enter into a contract with Planer Brothers Crushing for 2027 concrete crushing services. Currently the city maintains a site where asphalt and concrete can be deposited from sidewalk, driveway, patio, etc., replacement. Through crushing this material, the city recycles the product which reduces the amount needed for projects in the community as it is cheaper to use than purchasing and hauling from a quarry.
Two requests from the Electric Utility department will also be considered. The council will be reviewing a request to purchase a new brush chipper, after receiving bids from three vendors. They will also consider entering an agreement with DGR Engineering for engineering services to update the City's municipal electric system Arc Flash Assessment.
The Webster City Council meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 6 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend, or to watch via the City of Webster City Facebook page.
