Webster City’s Back-to-School Night is bigger and better than ever
Basic information for parents and students, valuable free services, food and fun are all on the menu

This year Webster City Community School District's Back-to-School Night is from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Middle School. All students, parents and guardians are invited. There is no charge to attend, and the first 300 attendees will receive a free hot dog dinner compliments of the school district.
Amanda Warweg, student services coordinator at Webster City schools, provided the following information about Back-to-School Night:
Q. What can families and students expect from this year's Back-to-School Night?
A. Everyone can enjoy an evening filled with back-to-school resources, including registration assistance, meal and transportation support, health screenings, sports physicals, haircuts, community programs, and school success information.
Q. What did you take into consideration in planning Back-to-School Night this year?
A. We wanted to take a look at all of the district and community resources families might need for the upcoming school year and provide them in one night and one location.
Q. What are you hoping for each family and student who attends?
A. We want them to walk away feeling excited to start the '26-'27 school year.
Q. As the first event of the new school year, what tone will the event seek to strike?
A. The tone will be warm, welcoming, and celebratory – helping every family feel supported, connected, and confident as the new school year begins.
Q. What inspired you to create this event?
A. This event was initially created for our English Learners and their families to increase family engagement. As we began adding more services to the evening, we realized we have many families who would benefit from a “one-stop-shop” type of evening to get ready for the school year.
Fifteen services will be available to students and parents, including school registration assistance, breakfast and lunch program application support, school transportation information,
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) information, Kendall Young Library card sign-up, Webster City Police/DARE program information, Infinite Campus information, how to connect with the district's social media, and preschool information.
Free medical and personal services available at Back-to-School Night include dental screenings for preschool and kindergarten students, school sports physicals, immunizations, and haircuts.
The financial value of these services is considerable, especially for families enrolling more-than-one student. Saving money is a high priority for families this year given data from a 2026 study by the National Retail Foundation which found parents will spend an average $600-800 per K-12 student for school supplies, clothes, shoes and electronics this year.
