Webster City Chamber of Commerce taking new direction

The Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce is making some major changes, according to an emailed letter sent from Jamie Griffith to Chamber members yesterday. Griffith has been serving as the Executive Director since January.

A new partnership has been formed with the Ames Regional Economic Alliance. With this change, Griffith, who is also serving as the manager of the Hamilton County Fair board, stepped down from position with the chamber and will resume her volunteer work for the chamber of commerce.

“When I accepted the role of Executive Director in January, I did so on a part-time basis with the goal of helping guide the Chamber through a period of transition. Over the past several months, it became clear that our members would be best served by a new operating model that provides dedicated, full-time leadership focused on business outreach, member engagement, and the continued growth of our Chamber,” Griffith said in a letter to members yesterday.

“As part of this transition, a full-time Executive Director will be hired, with the position expected to be filled by the first of September 2026. This individual will work closely with the Ames Regional Economic Alliance while remaining dedicated to serving the unique needs of Webster City and our local business community,” she continued.

According to City Manager John Harrenstein, Ottie Maxey will be serving as the interim director until this position is filled.

“It’s more that the chamber repositions itself,” said Harrenstein, “There will be more opportunities for the members and community.”

Robin Streigel, who has coordinated Market Nights as the Events Manager for the past few years will continue to do so through the end of the schedule. But Streigel will not be manning the office, and the office will be closed until staff has been hired.

“I’m excited,” said Harrenstein, “I believe this will allow the chamber to focus on small business and downtown issues.”

Both Harrenstein and Griffith assure members that they will be providing uninterrupted service to our members and preserving the programs, events, and benefits.

While looking for a new Executive Director, Chamber inquiries and member needs can be directed to Webster City City Hall office by contacting Amelia Oliver or Ariel Bertran. While the Chamber office is closed community members are encouraged to come to City Hall, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for assistance.
