Design team to start concept ideas for Webster City High School

Community encouraged to provide input next Tuesday and Wednesday

The Webster City School Board and Webster City Community School district is starting to consider ways to improve the high school and taking the first steps in considering changes needed for a high school facility upgrade.

FEH Design, a Des Moines-based architectural firm, will be hosting two come-and-go SPARK brainstorming sessions on July 7th and 8th. These sessions involve the architects and designers sketching ideas to create a proposal for the Webster City School board.

The Webster City High School is located at 1001 Lynx Ave. The concept designers will be talking with people in the Performance Gym lobby area at the west entrance. This area of the high school is both handicap accessible and air conditioned.

Whatever the proposed project becomes will be put to a public vote in September. The SPARK sessions will help glean priorities and needs from the community at large and an advisory committee has been established who will help be the voice of the public.

These SPARK sessions are open to the public and participation encouraged by anyone interested and invested in this project. These meetings will be held at the Webster City High School and everyone is encouraged to weigh in their thoughts and ideas.

The architects who will be putting together a proposal will want to know about any areas of potential change affecting educational spaces, athletics, fine arts, support spaces, the front entrance, and anything else associated with the school property, according to Amelia Oliver, communications director for the Webster City school district.

This is the best time to offer input on this project and is a great opportunity to communicate what is needed for the future of our high school and community.

Both meetings will be held at the Webster City High School. To access the meeting area, park in the school parking lot and use the west entrance of the Performance Gym.

The architectural teams will be available throughout the day on both Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday it will be 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Wednesday it is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each day, individuals will be able to address some concepts and offer ideas.

The community is encouraged to come and discuss ideas and address other issues associated with the High School building needs.

At 6 p.m. each day, a presentation will be made by the teams who will be sketching out ideas based on the public input, and share with the assembled community members what has been addressed throughout the day.

This is the first step in putting pen to paper and all your ideas and opinions are welcome. For more information contact Amelia Oliver at aoliver@wcschools.org.

Starting at $3.46/week.
