City Council approves Hazard Mitigation plan, wild flowers in easement

The Webster City City Council approved the Hamilton County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, and waived the third reading during the council meeting Monday night.
The plan, which in great detail outlines potential hazards that could occur in each community in the county.
"This plan concurs with mutual aid agreements with all the communities in Hamilton County," said Webster City Fire Chief,Chuck Stansfield. "More than anything else, we are going to help each other out."
The agreement puts in writing the current existing actions that work between the communities in the county. The agreement also will allow for assistance if there would be a major event needing financial aid and assistance through grants and other federal programs.
A request for a nuisance hearing by Matt MacRunnel was honored during the evening, as he had received a nuisance notification on his property. He sought permission to plant wildflowers in his right of way in front of his home on Fairmeadow Drive.
MacRunnel had received a nuisance notification due to the large number of weeds that were above the height to be maintained according to the city ordinance.
The request by MacRunnel was approved after discussion about the work that had been done on the Fairmeadow drive project over the past few years. MacRunnel stated that he had previously maintained a wildflower section, but that the dirt used to fill in the area between the sidewalk and the street was of poor quality, and had many weeds imbedded in the dirt that made it difficult to keep maintained.
Brandon Bahrenfuss, Street Dept. Supervisor and Ariel Bertran, Community and Economic Development Director, both offered explanations on the work and communications that had occurred over the past year.
The approval came with the condition that MacRunnel keep the property well maintained.
