Young or old, there’s something for everyone during Market Nights in downtown Webster City. Charlotte Heaton has found her something in the form of a cookie. Look for those homemade treats along with other vendors during tonight’s Red, White and Blue celebration.

Saturday we celebrate our Independence Day for the 250th year, but tonight we start the celebration as a community in downtown Webster City for the Red, White and Blue market night. Market Nights officially last from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., but there are some events which happen a bit earlier, and run a bit later.
A new twist for this week is a contest for the best dressed in the patriotic colors.
Community members of all ages are invited to dress in their favorite patriotic attire and participate in the Best Dressed Red, White & Blue Contest. Participants can stop by the Chamber booth to have their photo taken for online voting. Both youth (Born to Sparkle) and adult contest (Mr. and Mrs. Red, White & Blue) divisions will be recognized.
Historian Michael Eckers will do a historical reenactment from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at the RSVP office, located at 749 2nd St. This unique presentation will share what was happening 250 years ago on July 2.
Unique to the celebration of Independence Day is a Freedom Wall where visitors can share patriotic messages, and a prayer tent hosted by the Webster City Church of Christ. In addition, the Hamilton County Veterans Affairs, along with the American Legion will be distributing flags, swag, and selling hot dogs and coney dog meals.
Also on the list of special activities this week, are inflatable rain gutter races, a bounce house sponsored by Aliya Massman of Abens Realty, knot tying activities with the Scouting America Troop 17 and Cub Scout Pack 583, derby car demonstration races, and a display of emergency and service vehicles on hand for a Touch a Truck event specially geared for children to meet the heroes who help keep our communities safe.
In addition there will be Doodle Bugs and tractors, live music by Kris Karr sponsored by Seneca Foundry and free Kona Ice for the first 250 children, sponsored by Platinum Connect.
“This evening is about remembering our history, appreciating our freedoms, and celebrating together,” said Robin Streigle of the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to the special events, the Youth Produce program will still be on hand where youth can complete an activity to earn Produce Bucks and the Market Nights in a Box will also be available for those who have pre-ordered these fresh, locally grown and produced items from the vendors participating in the event.
Throughout the evening, visitors can browse local vendors, enjoy food trucks, cool off with refreshing drinks, shop downtown businesses, and experience the vibrant community atmosphere that has made Market Nights one of Webster City’s favorite summer traditions.
The Chamber encourages everyone to bring family, friends, and lawn chairs and spend the evening celebrating community while supporting local businesses.
