Volunteers help unload the steady stream of vehicles bringing items to a clean-up event held a few years ago. This year’s event is scheduled Friday and Saturday at the Webster City Middle School parking lot.
Volunteers are needed for Saturday morning’s Drop-Off/ Clean-up event, according to Ashley Dinsdale, coordinator from the City of Webster City.
Volunteers are needed to help carry items to the bins, so there will be lifting and moving items.
“It could be furniture, it could be carpet, it could be appliances, it could be just junk, but we need help to put things in the bins.” Dinsdale said.
The City of Webster City holds this annual event that is free for residents of Webster City. This is to encourage property owners to clean up their properties, both inside and out.
This event begins from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, and again on June 13 from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Webster City Middle School parking lot.

There are enough volunteers for Friday, according to Dinsdale.
Volunteers can contact Ann Smith or Ashley Dinsdale at city hall if able to volunteer on Saturday, by calling 515-832-9151, or email adinsdale@webstercity.com.
“I’ve worked on this for many years, even before I worked here,” said Dinsdale, “Some of the things are pretty clean, some are pretty dirty.”
She encouraged coming prepared to get dirty.
“I would wear old clothes, a hat and some sun screen,” said Dinsdale. “We will provide gloves. Bomgaars is donating gloves and 8 cases of water.”
“And we always have a little snack in case someone needs something,” she continued.
She encouraged neighbors to work together to help move items.
“It’s a great opportunity to help clean up the town,” said Dinsdale. “This is a great way for those nuisance properties to get rid of stuff; they can haul to this for free.”
There isn’t an organized way to pick up items for those who are unable to bring things to the site.
“If there are enough volunteers there might be some assistance for extremely needy properties,” said Dinsdale, “You can call city hall and ask if someone could help pick up items, but this would primarily for the handicapped or the elderly. There is not a guarantee for assistance.”
If there are volunteers willing to pick up items on either Friday or Saturday, they will have to use their own vehicle, so she recommends bringing a truck. There are no fees for disposal, so there is a great need for volunteer workers.
Items that will be accepted that day only will be: appliances, box fans/ceiling fans, batteries, carpet pieces, computer towers, exercise equipment/bicycles, grills, lawn furniture, household furniture, microwaves, misc. household items and scrap metal items.
Items not accepted include animal carcasses, nothing with liquid in it, such as batteries, paint cans, oil cans, etc., concrete, bricks or rocks, printers or fax machines, gun ammo, fireworks, propane tanks/cylinders, hazardous materials, regular household garbage, large amounts of building materials, roofing materials, monitors, keyboards, televisions, medical sharps, tires and nothing containing asbestos or yard waste..
The city encourages residents to take full advantage of no fee clean up days. The purpose of this event is to clean up Webster City and allow residents to dispose of items that cannot be placed in the regular garbage or be recycled.
The City of Webster City reserves the right to refuse acceptance of any item or items.
The City will continue to enforce nuisance abatement laws for non-compliant properties.
