Supervisor meeting today includes Briggs Woods Conference Center

Young: Solutions being considered

The agenda for the County Supervisors meeting today includes many of the typical topics. But one item stands out, the Briggs Woods Conference Center operations.

“The conference center is open and accepting business,” said Rick Young, chairman for the Hamilton County Supervisors. “It is on the agenda tomorrow, but there won’t be much action because April is gone.”

April Ely, is one of the county supervisors and she is out of town for the week.

There may not be much action, but there has been a lot of discussion throughout the county, and even the state. Young says the existing staff is in place until the end of July.

After that there are some suggestions and solutions that will keep the conference center open and functioning as it has in the past.

“We’ve had several ideas submitted to us, and we will be digesting these,” said Young “All of them will be providing the services we’ve had in the past.”

Young said there is a lot of information out there that is not necessarily true.

“If there is any need for clarification, we will do that tomorrow,” said Young.

The meeting last week brought to light a number of issues that are forcing the County Supervisors to make changes, but it is not forcing the closure of the facility.

“We’ve been presented with several different solutions,” he said.

Individuals and organizations who have booked events, who have concerns about their events should talk to the supervisors, but Young says they should not worry.

“The current employees are still working,” he said, ” I have not been notified that anyone is leaving. They will be working until July 31.”

All current bookings will be honored before and after that date, said Young. One of the issues which has forced the changes is the volume of events, dinners and weddings. Additional scheduled events will still be needed, according to Young.

“We would welcome the chance to bring in any opportunities for additional events or activities,” he said.

Other items to be handled during the meeting includes the approval of a modified 28E agreement with Webster County, a public defender office lease, retail tobacco license, a request for opioid funding for public health and a resolution for the Bridge Farm addition.

There will also be an appointment made to the Williams library board of trustees.

They will also be setting a date and time for a public hearing on the 2026 multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan.

The next meeting of the county Supervisors will be June 24.

Starting at $3.46/week.
