LuAnn Jackson, president of the American Legion Auxiliary for Post 191, examines one of the cemetery flags last summer to determine if there is enough stripe left to repair. The American Legion will be conducting a ceremonial disposal of unserviceable U.S. flags this Friday at 4 p.m. They will accept flags from the community which are beyond repair for appropriate disposal on this date or by bringing their flags to the American Legion building at 726 Second St. If in doubt, Jackson encourages flag owners to bring their flags to the post and leave names with them. She can examine them and recommend repairs. Individuals can repair their own flags, but if questions, they may contact her at 515-835-0178.
