May programs, workshops for adults at the Kendall Young Library
The Kendall Young Library will be hosting a number of different adult programs throughout the month of May. Some require registration, some also include fees and study before the session.
Book Clubs
The Kendall Young Library adult book clubs are open to anyone who would like to join. Each month, the new title will be announced for the following discussion. Books are available to check out at the adult circulation desk.
Adult Daytime Book Club: The May Book Club discussion will be on “There Are Rivers In The Sky” by Elif Shafar. This group will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on May 12. The June book will be announced at this meeting.
Adult Evening Book Club: The Adult Evening Book Club discussion will be on “The Road To Tender Hearts” by Annie Hartnett. This group will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 13.
Books & Bourbon Silent Book Club: The Silent Book Club will meet at Seneca Street Saloon on May 21. The Saloon is located at 919 Seneca St. This will be the last gathering before fall. Adults are invited to gather together from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Bring a book, grab a drink, and enjoy an introverted happy hour.
In addition to the book clubs, the library offers other adult programs during May.
Drug emergency training Tuesday at noon in Kendall Young Library
The Kendall Young Library is working in conjunction with Community and Family Resources to host training on opioid overdose and naloxone.
This will be held at noon on May 5 in the KYL meeting Room in the lower level.
This event will help participants to recognize and respond to opioid emergencies with lifesaving tools. Narcan will be available to attendees at the end of the event.
This event is free and does not require registration.
Iowa Works Job Fair next week
An Iowa Works Job Fair will be held at the Kendall Young Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Multiple employers will be present to help explore the jobs and careers they have available. This event is open to anyone and will be held in the Kendall Young Library Meeting room, located in the lower level of the library.
First Aid and CPR training set for May 19
First Aid and CPR Training will be offered on May 19 at the Kendall Young Library with Heather Rice providing the training. This certification is a hybrid format and requires online coursework prior to training. (Heartsaver Total — First Aid CPR AED Online — $23).
