Hamilton County Supervisors proclaim Poppy Days on May 22-23

The Hamilton County Supervisors signed a proclamation proclaiming next May 22 and 23 as National Poppy Days.

The first poppy sales began over 100 years ago and has been a tradition that continues today.

Poppies have been sold in support of our disabled veterans and their families nationally since 1921, with the first offical sales in Webster City in 1925.

According to Auxiliary President LuAnn Jackson, the first five years of the campaign, between 3,000 and 4000 poppies were ordered. Sales for veterans at the Hamilton County Supervisor meeting on Tuesday.

Poppy sales begin from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 22 at Fareway, Hy-Vee and Bomgaars. They can also be found at Osweilers, Salon Oasis, Salon 707, Polly’s Garden Center in Stanhope, Jewell Farm Store and Jewell Grocery, Ellsworth Co-op, and in Stratford at Security Saings Bank, Perks Energy Gas Station and Bakin’ Diner.
