Al Welsh Orchestra to perform at Conference Center in April

When the band students of the Jay Nugent years reunite in April, the Al Welsh Orchestra will be performing as a special engagement that is open to the public.

Former Webster City High School graduate, Steve Cook, is now the owner and the director of the Al Welsh Orchestra. This group specializes in Big Band music, and originated in Webster City. The social and dance will begin at 6 p.m. on April 16 at the Briggs Woods Conference Center.

Cook is a member of the Class of 1977. Jay Nugent, who directed the Webster City High School band for the graduates from the classes of 1974 through 1981and his wife Cheri will be attending all the weekend events to share memories, stories, laughter, and of course music.

There are events going on throughout the weekend for former band members, but the Friday night function is open to anyone who loves this style of music.

“We hope to engage with the current band director at the Webster City High School,” said Jani Koolhoff Deaver, who is one of the organizers. “We really want to help the band program grow, we want music to be a forever thing.”

There is limited seating at the Friday night event. Tickets are available for $35 single/$65 pair. This will include light appetizers and dessert. A cash bar will be open during the evening.
