‘99 Counties of Iowa’ writer to speak at Kendall Young Library on Saturday morning

Saturday morning, the Kendall Young Library will feature a presentation by Tyler Sullivan, a young man who has been running through counties all across Iowa, learning about the landscape, stories and history of the state.
The program, called Iowa Scenic Views by Foot starts at 11 a.m. in the meeting room of the Kendall Young Library. The library is located at 1201 Willson Ave.
Although Sullivan is running in each of the counties, he has two books under his belt.
“I am more of a writer than a runner.” he said, “I’ve been a runner since 8th grade, but I now call myself a writer. I am up to 575 poems.” Sullivan forms a poem for each of the counties he visits.
“I think a lot when I’m running.” he said.
Sullivan grew up in Iowa City, and now lives in North Liberty. He is a custodian for the University of Iowa, and has been there for 11 years.
The program on Saturday focuses on how he began this adventure across Iowa
“I mostly talk about how my journey began and I talk about some of the attractions I’ve seen along my travels.” he said.
Sullivan has been to 97 out of the 99 counties of Iowa. He has been to 1300 cities across the state.
“I’m writing “99 counties across the state.” he said. ” In the past two years I’ve been to 500 museums, just last year I went to 366.”
Not married, Sullivan said his girlfriend is also an author who is starting to really enjoy the Iowa journey.
The program, sponsored by the Kendall Young Library is free for all to attend.
