Webster City Community Theatre earns 10 nominations for state awards

Of Men and Cars was produced by Webster City Community Theatre in February of 2025

The Iowa Community Theatre Association–ICTA, announced the nominees Friday for the 2026 Awards of Excellence presented by ICTA.

The Webster City Community Theatre–WCCT, who will be hosting the annual ICTA Convention and Gala later this spring, was nominated in ten different categories. During the convention, the winners of the categories for outstanding plays and musicals will be announced. WCCT has been nominated in ten different categories.

This Gala and awards program will be held on March 28 at the Briggs Woods Conference Center.

Loween Getter, who serves on the ICTA board Webster City Community Theatre said there are a number of people who help nominate shows.

“The program has been around for a number of years,” said Getter.

She explained that members of the ICTA board go around to other member theatre groups and review their productions.

“I can go and review shows at other theatres,” she said, “There is a rubric that is used to determine nominees”

Those criteria are calculated and that determines what shows and individuals will be nominated.

There are six nominations in each of the categories.

“All the theatres who are members (of ICTA) can ask to be reviewed.” she said. ” It’s nice to be nominated and it’s nice to win, we’ve gotten awards in the past.”

But participating in theatre is not done for the awards she cautioned, it’s great entertainment for the community, and great fun for those participating on stage and behind the scenes.

The play, “Of Men and Cars” received the most nominations in six different categories. “The Cafe Mocha Murders” received two nominations, with the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” receiving two nominations also.

Scenic Design for a play – Patrick O’Loughlin and Alan Yungclas – “Of Men and Cars”

Lighting Design for a play – Sam Ose, Anne Blankenship, “Of Men and Cars”

Sound Production for a play – Sally Evans “Of Men and Cars”

Sound Effects Design for a play – Katie Hildal, Dane Barner, “Of Men and Cars”

Sound Production for a musical – Dave Parrott, “Little Shop of Horrors”

Lighting Design for a musical – Sam Ose, “Little Shop of Horrors

The weekend begins Friday night when the “Over the Speed Limit Players,” will debut their first performance. Workshops will also be held on Saturday during the day t with two workshops led by Webster City High School alumni; Daniel Blankenship and Amelia Oliver. In addition , Katie Hahn from the University of Northern Iowa will be presenting an workshop in addition to the Music Theatre International will be conducting a workshop via Zoom.
