Three students from Webster City were chosen to perform with the Iowa State Honor bands last weekend. There are two bands which rehearsed on Friday evening, then performed in concert on Saturday afternoon.
Jackson Meyer, left, Ava Ely and Ava Orr were chosen from a field of nearly 500 students who were nominated to participate from around the state. Only 70 students were chosen to participate in the two bands.
The nomination process includes information about their prior honor band experience, ratings at solo contests and overall instrument playing ability.
To be selected in either band, Cardinal or Gold, is a big honor! The Gold band is predominately made up of students selected for the All State Music Festival.
Jackson Meyer was selected to play piccolo in the Cardinal Band and performed a solo at the concert. Ava Ely was selected as 2nd flute, 1st chair in the Gold Band and also had a solo at the concert! Ava Orr was selected as 3rd clarinet, 2nd chair in the Gold Band and performed a duet at the concert.
All three students were praised by Kaitlynn Abens, the Webster City High School Band director, noting that performance in either band is a great achievement.
